How to Fast-Track Your Ontario Marriage Certificate
Need your Ontario marriage certificate faster than the usual 10-14 weeks? If you're relocating internationally or have an immigration hearing date, you can expedite your application to receive it within 2-6 weeks. Follow the steps below.*
Apply for your marriage license from Toronto City Hall or your municipal office. Note: It’s only valid for 90 days from the date of issue.
Apply for your marriage certificate. On the day of your wedding, apply for your marriage certificate online. Don’t forget to make note of your order number.
Write a proof of urgency letter. The letter should clearly state the reason you are expediting your marriage license in order to receive your certificate. Include your marriage certificate order and marriage license number (in red beginning with “G”.
Gather your supporting document(s). Scan and print any documents that support the reason you are expediting your marriage certificate. For example: airline tickets, notice for immigration hearing, letter of employment, etc.
Bring all of the documents with you on your wedding day—your license, letter of urgency, and supporting document(s)—and give them to your wedding officiant to ship to the Registrar’s Office.
